Weighing in for wrestling

Posted on September 23, 2011 , by charley

Most people assume that the toned fit body of a wrestler is something to behold. Some wrestlers will stick to a strict diet to drop a weight class. But the wrestling team at Galesburgh High School tried something different, they had a chicken wing eating contest, not to bulk up and gain weight, not to compete in another weight category, but to raise money as an event.

32 wrestlers and coaches stuff themselves silly with Buffalo Wild Wings, as they might do for a mid winter wrestling tournament.

Obviously this bizarre event was a fund raiser, some of the wrestlers wore chap stick to protect their lips from the blazing hot mango and habanero sauce on the wings and drank milk to protect their stomachs! Maybe they should have considered head gear also, for more protection!

Galesburgh High School Junior Demario Walker was an early favourite eating his wings in 1 minute and 20 seconds.

As the wings got hotter more and more wrestlers dropped out, one coach quoted entering such a competition over 20 years ago and having to drink milk for a week because the wings were so hot!

As you can imagine this isn't the normal thing for wrestlers to do, they need to stick to a balanced diet and fitness regime encouraging the growth of muscles by eating plenty of protein and slow release carbohydrates.

Yes, chicken wings are protein, but not when they're covered in incredibly sticky and sugary sauces. Anyway we have to say well done to the Galesburgh High School Wrestling Team and Coaches, after their mammoth chick wing eating fund raising event , they managed to raise over $3000 for a good cause! Well done to those people, that's the kind of thing we like to see at My Wrestling Room, now if you don't mind, could you pass over the chicken wings. :)
