Wrestling Knee Pads Can Help Prevent Bursitis

Posted on July 20, 2012 , by chris

What is Bursitis?

Prepatellar Bursitis is one of the most common knee injuries that wrestlers endure.  Prepatellar bursitis occurs when the bursa sac, located in the front of the knee, becomes inflamed and fills with blood. This injury is commonly know among wrestlers as "fluid in the knee". Bursa sacs are found in all joints throughout the body and serve to reduce friction between muscles, tendons and bones. This injury is sustained by aggravation to the prepatellar bursa sac by repeated blows to the knee. When the bursa sac becomes inflamed, it can be very painful and hard to move knee. It is very common among wrestlers given the fact that many takedowns and shots require them to hit their knees. This repeated impact on the knees with the mat is how the injury occurs. While this is a relatively minor injury in the realm of knee injuries, it is still one that can be very annoying and keep you off the mats. Unlike many other knee injuries that can occur in wrestling, this one can be prevented.

Prevent Bursitis by Wearing Wrestling Knee Pads

Wearing wrestling knee pads can greatly reduce the chance of a wrestler having bursitis. Knee pads for wrestling are specially designed to minimize the direct impact on the knee as well as absorb the overall shock, limiting the aggravation of the bursa sac. While wearing certain knee pads, like wrestling headgear, can be annoying not all of them are. The key is finding the right one for you. Here at MyWrestlingRoom we carry all different types of kneepads from bubble to sleek gel filled kneepads. If  you wear knee pads wrestling will be less harsh on your knees and will keep you on the mats!
