Wreslting Shoes - New for 2006!

Brute Wrestling, in conjunction with Adidas, has made some major redesigns in its wrestling shoes for 2006. This post will provide a broad review of the new wrestling shoes. A more detailed product review for each wrestling shoe will be presented in additional blog posts below.

For 2006, the top of the line wrestling shoe is now the adiStike John Smith Signature. This is essentially a combination of two wrestling shoes from 2005 which are the adiStar and the John Smith. The adiStrike will retail for $118, but can be found at www.mywrestlingroom.com for $109.95.

The adidas A’ttaak has also been radically redesigned, resulting in the adidas A’taak II. The shoe retails for $100 with MyWrestlingRoom carrying it for $89.95.

Finally, the best selling Tyrint II has been upgraded to the Tyrint III. This wrestling shoe, along with the Mathog and Mathog Jr. is the bread and butter of the adidas product line. Like the A’ttaak II, it has been radically redesigned.

There have been no changes to the Response wrestling shoe which was a top seller in 2005. The Response will feature 5 colors for 2006 including new in lime and gold colors that were introduced in 2005. The Mathog and Mathog Jr. entry level wrestling shoes will remain the same and are offered in black and white

The 2006 Asics wrestling shoes lineup features two brand new model – the Dan Gable Ultimate and an upgraded Split Second VI which replaces last the 2005 model Split Second V. The Dan Gable Ultimate is a brand new offering in 2006 for Asics.

Asics continues to be extremely “brand” oriented and has chosen to maintain its classic wrestling logo of double “swish” stripes intersected with two parallel stripes. Most of the design modifications are represented by some striking new colors and some new construction elements. The new contraction elements and colors with be reviewed in greater detail in subsequent posts.

We feel that the Dan Gable Ultimate will compete head to head with the adidas John Smith wrestling shoe. Both are top-of the line with the Dan Gable priced higher. The Dan Gable with retail for around $125 with the John Smith at $110.

Right below the Dan Gable Ultimate are two shoes from last year – Asics Rulon and Asics Cael V2.0. Both shoes were strong sellers last year, although the black and red Rulon did not sell as well as the black and yellow? Not sure why – but both are high end shoes for the elite wrestler. We expect them to retail in the range of $80 to $100.

Next in line is the Gel-Assault. Despite its solid construction this wrestling shoe did not sell well. We believe that there was not enough differentiation among the other Asics models and it kind of got lost in the shuffle.

The second new entry for Asics is the Split Second VI. This product line feature four primary colors of along with two fashion colors and the shoe will retail for $50 to $60.

Finally the Asics entry level shoe is the Fuerte and Fuerte Jr. Both were strong sellers last year and are available in four colors. We expect them to retail for $40 to 49. Both were popular among high school wrestlers and youth wrestlers.
